Before you train your puppy, you must learn to train your puppy..
To ensure that you have a well-behaved puppy, would all depend on you :) Here are some puppy training tips.
Remember, those valuable moments you spend with your puppy can contribute to a
healthy, happy dog. It is basically up to you.. It only takes a couple of weeks to get them to do everything you want them to do. They are much like children and absorb a lot in these crucial first weeks.
Tip: The best advise is to purchase a puppy around eight - ten weeks of age.
(Preferably the lessor)
- These puppies are forming their permanent bonds with people, up until the age of 12 weeks. If the puppy gets taken away too early, it will cause the puppy having problems getting along with other dogs.
- You can teach your puppy anything from house training, control it's incessant barking and various tricks just by spending some quality time with him/her.
- This puppy will grow-up to be your companion, which you would want to be proud of, so put some extra time and effort into this exercise.
Bringing the puppy home is fun and exciting, there are a couple of things you can try to add to the puppy training process.
Bad puppy behavior often happens, when you've left the puppy training too late. Remember.. these cute, cuddly friends, do grow-up..
Here are some tips on how to handle your puppy training:
Your attitude:
- Be firm
- Gentle
- Patient
- Persistent
- Kind
- And most importantly: Be Consistent.
Training Aids
As you have chosen to purchase this puppy, it would be your duty to give it all the love and
good training you can possibly give.
While training your puppy, be sure to get a couple of items to assist your process, such as:
Whistles
- A Collar that Fits properly
- Dog Chewies / Training Treats
- Great treats include high-energy, all-meat snacks or meat-free, vegetable snacks.
Tip:
Use these treats as an occasional training aid or a reward, otherwise the puppy will eventually expect them, rather than "deserve" them.
Fetch Toys
- Rubber Toys or Material Toys
Tip:
Don't use a stick, not only is it unsafe for the puppy, but it would also put the puppy off fetching, should anything ever happen.
Dog Naming
It is quite essential to choose the correct name for your dog to comply with your training.
- Avoid most names beginning with "S" - because it sounds like "sit".
- Use a two syllable name, so that it does not confuse the dog with basic commands; Examples are Oscar and Echo
- To help you with this decision, use the command after you say the dogs' name, for instance: Echo, Come. This way the dog would know that a command will follow their name and they will be prepared and their focus will be on you.
- Use a lot of repetition, consistency and patients - this is like learning a new language to them.
Hope you enjoyed these useful puppy training tips :)
